Representing Great Britain was: Anna Morrissey, Jasmin Taylor, Fred Thomas, Jack Harvard Taylor and James French.

Following a training day on Friday, racing got underway on Saturday morning with the first of two Sprint races. In the men, James and Jack struggled in the first run and failed to make ‘the flip’ (top 30 go in reverse order for the second run) and finished 30th and 31st respectively.

In the ladies, both Anna and Jasmin skied consistently in both runs finishing in 7th and 14th position.

The following day only Jasmin qualified for the Parallel Sprint (top 8 ladies and 16 men). Team Captain, Jack Harvard Taylor said “the strong field in Les Contamines made it incredibly difficult to qualify for the Parallel. Usually the organisers try to include the top 32 men but due to time constraints and poor snow cover they took the decision to run with only the top 16″.

Jasmin put down two excellent runs against Mathilde Ilebrekke from Norway but was unfortunately beaten to the line. Mathilde went on to take silver medal in the final, racing against World Champion and overall World Cup leader Amelie Reymond.

On the third and final day of racing, Anna recorded a personal best - finishing in 8th place in Sprint. Jasmin experienced a few difficulties in her first run but managed step it up in the second and crossed the line in 7th position.

Jasmin commented, “It was a tough set of races for me, I’m not satisfied with my skiing but taking a positive, I have learnt a lot and gained more, much need, experience on the World Cup”.

Jack fought hard in both run, finishing in 25th after a tough race with its fair share of thrills and spills!

Jasmin Taylor wins first FIS Telemark World Cup medal for Great Britain in Hintertux

British Telemark racer Jasmin Taylor took silver medal in Sunday’s opening World Cup Parallel Sprint race of the 2013/14 season, making her the first British athlete to reach the Telemark World Cup podium.

Skiing consistently well in the mornings heats, Taylor reached the final round of the competition and drew Swiss telemark veteran and reigning World Champion, Amelie Reymond.

British Team Manager and FIS Telemark Chairman, Andrew Clarke commented, “Jasmin beat fellow teammate Anna Morrissey and continued on through the next three rounds to find herself up against the ubiquitous Amelie Reymond, who secured two wins in previous days. Not prepared to give Reymond an inch she battled on in the first run, chasing by only a few tenths of a second into the rap and then following in hot pursuit into the skate. Reymond took the first run with only a couple of ski lengths in it…

In the second run, despite the clear lead Jasmin was relentless and skated the last 100m hard. Unfortunately it was not enough to win but it was more than enough to give Jasmin her first Senior World Cup podium and put British Telemark firmly on the map!”
