Anna Morrissey starts snow training!

I have been in Austria for a week now and am loving being back in the mountains! I am feeling fit after my hard work over summer. I trained weekly with Huntly Nordic Ski club to work on my skating technique. In summer they train on roller skis and I was fortunate to live very close to them with my summer job. I was able to have coaching from the GB head coach, Roy Young and some of the British athletes: Posy Musgrave and Alex Standen. A massive thank you to the Newman family who really looked after me and gave me a lot of help!

I also had a personal trainer, Greg Anderson, who I completed a three month program with and he has given me a training schedule that I can continue with while I am in Austria. The training has given me a fantastic base fitness which has made my transition to snow training a lot easier.

So far, I have had one week skiing on the Stubai glacier and one day on the Hintertux glacier. I have spent four of these days with the German Telemark Team who have kindly offered the British Team to join them this season. My team mate, Andrew Clarke is staying with me just now and we have had a few great days skiing in the sunshine…though to our surprise we have just woken up to a FOOT of snow in the valley!! I was struggling to get into a rhythm in my first few days but I am skiing much better now after the help from the Germans and Andrew. I am feeling very confident that with two months on snow before the first World Cup I will be race ready. I have my first few days of gate training this weekend where I am looking forward to try out some of the new techniques I have learnt.

Loving life in Stubai! Sporting our Buff UK headwear
